Ten Rules About Being a Human Being
Recently I “e-met” another blogger, E. Marie’s the real name, but she goes around Bloggydom as “Kissie”. Neat gal, she visits here and comments quite often, and I’ve become a regular visitor of her blog as well. Apparently we both do the StumbleUpon.com thang also, because yesterday she found this piece on Stumble and forwarded it to me. I thought it was so good I had to share it with all of you today. Sorry, all you Adam Atom fans, the Old Silly promises he really, really, actually will be back next week in his regular Monday slot, and I’m whipping up a special, super-duper, epic episode for y’all. So stop throwing things at me, have a little patience, and today let these truisms sink in and please … add your thoughts in the comments.
I now share with you …
The Ten Rules For Being a Human Being
1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it’s yours to keep for the entire period.
2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called, “life.”
3. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial, error, and experimentation. The “failed” experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiments that ultimately “work.”
4. Lessons are repeated until they are learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson.
5. Learning lessons does not end. There’s no part of life that doesn’t contain its lessons. If you’re alive, that means there are still lessons to be learned.
6. “There” is no better a place than “here.” When your “there” has become a “here”, you will simply obtain another “there” that will again look better than “here.”
7. Other people are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects to you something you love or hate about yourself.
8. What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.
9. Your answers lie within you. The answers to life’s questions lie within you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.
10. If your are like most people, during the hectic, hustle and bustle of your daily life activities, you will forget all of this.

I like the idea that there are no mistakes, just lessons. Thanks, Marvin, for a nice start to my Monday.

Mystery Writing is Murder
So true, especially #7. We tend to dislike in others the traits we dislike in ourselves.
And real failure only comes with quitting.
With my love of inspiring thoughts and always working on “me,” I’ve come across all of these at one point or another. Great post – these ARE the rules we live by. Being reminded of them – just another lesson!
Another great post. Warning: Try to keep Adam out of Switzerland. The new particle accelerator is up and running and he would really get dizzy at 1.8 TEV.
I’m always having to remember these!
I do tend to lean towards #10 so it’s nice to have a reminder now and then.
I’m a “ten” kinda guy like Jane – thanks for the reminder! Good post.
Too true

So true, these ten rules. Great thoughts to start the day and stive to REMEMBER!
Spot on with this post, old silly!
What lovely things to be reminded about first thing Monday morning. Thanks, Marvin.

I will never forget number six since u’ve been teaching it to us all of our lives… lol
That was good and one I will refer back too!
Yes, and you’ve learned life lessons very well, my dear princess. Daughters like you make fathers proud.
Love these rules, nice thoughts to start the week with. Thanks for the reminder to remember, Marv!
I like this list. It would be difficult to choose one over the other – together they make a statement and present a truth. Thanks, Marvin.

Look, listen, and trust?
I looked and became blind.
I listened and went deaf.
Now that I cannot do either, I trust.
Ha!
Is that what they call blind faith?
Ooh, I love this one!
Very good list. Thank you.
Yes to #8 and #9!
#10. Um. Will try very hard not to make this happen.
Very wise post, Old Silly. I shall endeavor to remember them all, especially #7.
Elspeth
I’m also a big fan of #7. That is, I know it to be true but I struggle learning from it.
Thanks for actually, yet really lovingly, sharing.
This is an exellent list to not only know, but strive to REMEMBER and live by!
Oh, man, I gotta try to remember #3, there are no mistakes. Hmmm. Not sure what all those things lying dead in my wake are, but I called them mistakes at the time. Whatever you call them, I have enough to go around, that’s for sure.
Best Regards, Galen

Now them thar’s some good rules. I copied them onto a word document and saved them in my computer so I can maybe find them again some day. Might be useful to read now and then

All of it is so very very true, and Buddhist-like. Great post! And no mention of poop!! How’d you do that???
Took me awhile to find the “comments” button! But anyway, thanks for sharing these “rules.” Very good advice. I like #5 “Learning Lessons Does Not End.” That’s why I like writing–I’m always learning. I’m always a work in progress.
Keep up the good work, you Old Silly!
